And yes, that’s real wood. I dunno why people prefer it, it degrades and cracks and get all awful. Even my friend’s ‘05 S-class is getting cracks in the wood.

The air the car is too dry, needs more humidity. Ideally it should be 35% - 55% humidity. Below 35% it would shrink and crack, above 55% it will expand and warp.
